Confidential therapy in the heart of Edinburgh

As a psychodynamic therapist, I pay attention to unconscious relational processes between us and find links between what feels distressful for you in the present and what occurred in the past. I also integrate facets from Eugene Gendlin’s focusing-oriented psychotherapy, where I help you track what you are sensing and feeling at depth so that the implicitly known can be symbolized. Clients often find this relieving in itself.

I view therapeutic change as embodied, relational and non-linear. I often invite clients' attention to feelings and bodily sensations so that we don't get lost in the analysis or narrative. For substantial shifts to take place, we need to build a foundation of trust in the therapeutic relationship, and this takes time. I usually advise clients to expect to be in therapy for at least six months to a year for meaningful shifts to take place.

Therapy often involves stages of unraveling before we feel integrated and ‘ourselves’ again. This can feel confronting and disarming as we call into question protections (i.e. addictions, defenses, etc) that once kept us safe but are no longer helpful. I am here to accompany you as we encounter these challenges, bolster your inner resources and support your growing self-awareness and acceptance.
